[1] "IBM signals continued support for Informix"
It plans on buying them out but it won't shut them down. That's what
one IBM executive says about Big Blue's proposed purchase of its
one-time rival Informix. The executive said their long-term vision is
to integrate key features from Informix products to further bolster
the functionality of DB2.

[2] "IBM registers to sell i2 shares"
Just a year ago, IBM invested in i2 Technologies as part of an
alliance with Ariba. Now, IBM wants to sell about 2 million shares of
its e-commerce partner. IBM will still retain an interest in i2, but
while the alliance between the three companies was initially
successful, analysts have said the union was strained by Ariba's
attempted acquisition of Agile software. That deal fell through
earlier this year.

[3] "Hitachi Data: May mull acquisitions"
Hitachi Data Systems, which dropped out of the mainframe business
last year to concentrate on its storage business, says it's not
likely to match recent growth or hit long term targets without
acquisitions. The company's hardware sales rose 145% to nearly $500
million in its fiscal fourth quarter, which ended March 31 but
hitting those kinds of gains is a long shot-unless it can merge with
a company that can help.

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Tuna 'virus' puts five in hospital"
In Germany a suspected computer virus made people, and not their
systems, sick. Workers at an Internet company received a warning
reading "watch out for the tuna fish," which they thought was a
notice about a computer virus. It turns out, the email came from the
company that catered their lunch. Five workers wound up in the
hospital with food poisoning. Sorry, Charlie.
