arena"

market share in 2000, is partnering with San Diego Supercomputer
Center, Scientific Computing Associates and Scyld Computing Corp. to
deliver Linux clustering to its ProLiant server line.

Sun and Oracle have joined forces in an attempt to convince Microsoft
developers to support the Java programming language. The duo
announced a set of new tools that will translate Microsoft Active
Server Pages (ASPs) into Java Server Pages (JSPs) without forcing
developers to rewrite their software code. Java is supported by
Oracle, Sun, BEA Systems, IBM and others.

[2] "Tech giants update e-commerce standard"
Several computing giants, including IBM, have released the second
version of a key Web standard launched in May that allows businesses
to register with an Internet directory that will help companies
advertise their services, so they can find one another and conduct
transactions over the Web. The online yellow pages directory that
UDDI provides is a key part of how "Web services" plans such as
Microsoft .Net and Sun One will work together despite corporate
differences.

[3] "Lotus lets developers test Web service waters"
Lotus will use its DevCon 2001 in Las Vegas to tear the shroud of
mystery from Web services with a kit designed to let developers
expose Web services on Lotus' collaboration and messaging products.
Carl Kraenzel, Lotus spokesman, said the company plans to let
developers know that the Lotus products and APIs they already have
can be used right now and there is no need to wait, as with
Microsoft's .Net initiative. Executives at DevCon also plan to
outline how Lotus products fill out IBM's Web services vision.

While announcing the general availability of his company's new Oracle

products. Let customers decide for themselves whose database is the
best value, the outspoken executive said.

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"The push to push women highers"
Here is a test. Who is Bill Gates? Now, who is Carly Fiorina? If you
could answer the first but not the second question, you are not
alone. Despite being named the Most Powerful Woman in Business by
Fortune magazine, only 12% of IT professionals recognize
Hewlett-Packard's female CEO, compared with 98% who recognize Gates.
A new survey by Roper Starch released by Deloitte & Touche, found few
women are leading tech companies. Only one of 10 surveyed said the
owner or CEO of their company was a woman. That is only 10%, compared
to 17% in other industries. It makes those stodgy, old economy firms
look positively enlightened.
