THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
=======================================================
Thanks to all of you who posted answers to "askMikey's" question in
the Developer Forum yesterday! Another 390 peer needs your help and
guidance today.

search390 user "Deuce" posted the following in our Operating Systems
Forum: Being an MVS System programmer, I am not in tune to the pro's
and con's of the different file systems available in the other OS's.
With S/390 hardware and attached intelligent Storage Subsystem, is
this as much of a concern to have in place on S/390 versus NT or
R/6000 platforms?

If you have an answer for Deuce, post it here

[1] "Red Hat to play in Oracle's arena"
Linux seller Red Hat will announce new database software next week
that will at least give users alternatives to software from reigning
database maker Oracle and others. Red Hat said the product will
continue its support for open-source software without many of the
restrictions of proprietary software such as that from Microsoft or
Oracle. The news might not be causing a panic at Oracle, but a host
of smaller open-source companies have reason to pay attention to the
Red Hat plan.

[2] "Tivoli names new general manager"
Tivoli Systems announced earlier this week that a former executive
from IBM's Storage Networking Division will now take over as Tivoli's
general manager.Tivoli's former president, David Murphy, resigned May
18 to take the CEO post at a West Coast e-commerce company.

[3] "Multi-homed networks require strong management"
Continuous network uptime is the Holy Grail of e-commerce. Buying
service from multiple Internet service providers may be one way of
achieving it -- but only if you're committed to managing the process.

[4] "Red Hat posts first profit"
What's Wall Street thinking now? Linux darling Red Hat's first fiscal
quarter revenues of $25.6 million increased $18 million from the
comparable quarter a year ago, yet showed a decrease of 5% from its
fourth fiscal quarter of 2001. Red Hat broke even on income per
share, registering net income of $600,000, a significant improvement
over an adjusted net loss of $3.7 million during the comparable
quarter in 2001.

[1] "Juggling diversity"
The truth is that most IT shops tolerate a variety of server
operating systems. The mantra for all of today's server operating
systems is "reliability, availability, and serviceability." Why is it
that mainframes like IBM's System/390 rarely crash? Why should
Windows users be plagued by with the infamous "blue screen of death"?

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Rental-car firm exceeding the privacy limit?"
Something to keep in mind while on vacation this summer: Acme
Rent-a-Car is being sued by a Connecticut man after it used Global
Positioning System technology to track him and then fined him $450
for speeding three times. The New Haven Small Claims Court case pits
New Haven resident James Turner against Acme, a local company. When
Turner contested the charges, Acme was able to point out on a map
exactly where he exceeded the company's threshold speed of 79 mph.
Acme said it is not trying to make money with the fine, just protect
its assets. The judge has delayed the claim until the Department of
Consumer Protection has issued a ruling.
