========================================================
Java has been heralded as the language of the future. So should you
scrap all that COBOL code for Java? Well each is better suited for
different applications, however, someone with skills in both would be
a pretty hot commodity.

[1] "Users keen on the latest version of CA's Unicenter"
Analysts say the effort Computer Associates (CA) has made to listen
to the needs of their customers has paid off. Beta users are
applauding the latest release of CA's framework software, saying the
more modular design makes it easier to implement and use. CA says it
rebuilt the Unicenter architecture so customers could pick and choose
from the different network and systems management components, rather
than implement the whole package.

THE MISSING LINK

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Floridians mock cop cams"
People are wearing masks and making obscene gestures at cameras, but
it's not on Bourbon Street. The cameras in this case are the property
of the Tampa, Fla., police department. About 100 people protested a
new security system that scans faces in the city's crime-ridden
nightlife district to search for wanted criminals. The video cameras
snap pictures of faces in the crowd and analyze 80 facial points
between the nose, cheekbones and eyes to compare them to a database
of 30,000 criminals and runaway teens. In a related note, sales at
novelty shops of fake glasses and funny noses have skyrocketed.
