Performance problems due to system dumps | by Mark Zelden

We are experiencing performance problems caused by system dumps in
the last three months on several of our systems. The dumps are from
CICS and are not dumping CSA and are generally not large dumps. The
delays are due to paging that (I believe) are caused by stealing by
the dump process. UIC is 180-200. The system has 395 mips with
storage of 1456 meg cental and 1024 expanded. This seems like
problems we had way back in MVS 4.1 or 4.2...

DEVL and LPAR configuration issues | by Steve Samson

Below is the current LPAR config for 9672-x57. The TD02 LPAR will
soon be de-activated. I know we exceed the 2:1 LCP:PCP ROT. Weights
were determined using a mips chart designation of 748 mips for the
box. I know this has changed recently. SLA on the DEVL LPAR are not
being met. "Organizational structure" stops me from changing the
weights without buy-in. LPARs are not capped. Workload is
batch/tso/IDMS. Paging to expanded is 20-30 per hour, AUX is <5 per
hour.

My questions are:
Would adding a 3rd LP to DEVL help or hurt throughput?
How can I best measure this?

Performance: IMS vs DB2 | by Tom Moulder

Is it always true that for very high volume data IMS gives better
performance than DB2? What are the situations when we can think of
moving from IMS to DB2 without degrading performance? Is housekeeping
of a DB2 database (including CPU and storage cost) higher than that
of an IMS database?
