 From the Editor

There's not much doubt that getting legacy applications on the Web is an important task and a necessary step toward the future for many mainframers. But what is the best way to do that? Do you have the necessary skills? And what about all that COBOL code you have? Should you trade it in for Java? Should you rely on CICS, WebSphere or both? And is Linux a passing fad?

I recently posed some of these questions to IBM corporate technology strategist Mark Cathcart. His answers seemed to reinforce what many of you already know, the future is all about e-business, specifically dynamic e-business opportunities. Check out what Mark had to say in this Q&A, and post any follow-up questions you may have in one of our discussion forums. I'll make sure they get answered.
