Greetings search390 members,

I am pleased to announce that CICS guru Bob Yelavich will be joining search390 for another live Q&A tomorrow, February 20th at 2:00 PM EST. This time, Bob will be discussing CICS & XML for business to business. He'll also discuss what B2B is and how XML relates to B2B objectives. Bob will provide an introduction to XML and how it might be implemented in a CICS Transaction Server environment. IBM and vendor XML offerings will be identified, and future directions for CICS and XML will be described, as well as programming and application design considerations.

If you want to know more about CICS, XML and their relation to B2B data processing, make sure to join us tomorrow. You can save yourself some time by pre-registering for this event here.

See you tomorrow!

Rexx

For many, Rexx is the scripting language of choice. Created to make programming accessible to non-programmers, its ease-of-use has inspired NetRexx and Rexx for CICS. Check out these links for more info.

>> What better way to welcome a new member of search390 than with an answer to a question? New search390 member "attach" is trying to locate sample code that uses IBM macros attach wait and detach samples and any other reading or sample material. If you can point attach in the right direction, click here.

Tip of the Week:
Your WebSphere Java servlet has a horrible time accessing MVS datasets efficiently. You're not alone. PL/I coders get their knuckles rapped if they overdo usage of PUT/GET EDIT/DATA. C coders are likewise encouraged to limit formatted I/O via printf's and scanf's. "Why don't you behave like the COBOL coders do and simply use READs and WRITEs?" they are asked. Never mind that COBOL doesn't allow much beyond DISPLAYs. Record I/O is a performance benefit. Consider tweaking your Java servlet or application to use Java Record I/O (JRIO).
