;) IBM announced last week a new lower-price mainframe it says will lure customers who want a mainframe, but can't touch the high-price tag of traditional Big Iron. Check out the following news story for more information. One analyst says it's a good deal for mid-range shops that want the system design, but don't necessarily need the processing power or speed. He said the new mainframe is the difference between a min-van and a full-size van: same design, less cargo space. The move to a more affordable mainframe is a part of IBM's long-term strategy to make its system easier to obtain, easier to use. As an established, mainframe shop, what do you think about IBM's effort to make mainframes less exclusive? Do you think it will benefit shops like yours with more software, better pricing, etc? Or, will it "dumb-down" the mainframe. Maybe it won't make any difference at all. Maybe you couldn't care less. No matter your opinion, let me know what you think. E-mail me at kevans@techtarget |

Here's a question about WLM and DB2 stored procedures posted by search390 user Turgut: In the books it says DB2 stored procedures are system scope. Does it means we should define separate application environments for each system in the sysplex for DB2 SPAS? In the example, it defines application environment for each subsystem DB2 ids (DB2C1, DB2C2). If answer is yes, how are we going to distribute stored procedure among the sysplex members according to the performance objectives of WLM since we are assigning each stored procedure to the specific application environments? What do you think? Help Turgut out by posting your thoughts today: |
