BEWARE OF CICS BEARING GIFS! | by Jim Keohane

You have probably seen the caveats about CICS Web server trying to
serve up graphics files (GIFs, JPEGs, etc.). The recommendation may
be to have such files referenced as inline images within the HTML you
are sending to the browser but to have the files themselves served up
by another Web server.

Well, CICS can serve up such files. They can be in PDSes as members
or in VSAM files as records or a number of other repositories
(queues, etc.).

Another alternative, especially for rather small files like clickable
buttons, is to contain them as variables within a CICS program
itself. All it takes is a simple utility program that ingests the GIF
file contents and emits suitable source code for your CICS program.

HOW TO ACCESS TCT TABLE ENTRIES IN A CICS PROGRAM? | by Ken Davies

Dear Ask the Expert,
We are a 95% natural/ADABAS shop. The other 5% consists of
CICS/COBOL. We are currently on OS/390 R2.10 and CICS V4.1. We will
be migrating to CICS TS V2.2. Will the 5% need to be re-compiled to
function with V2.2? Is it better to make the migration to V1.3 first?
How can I tell if the CICS apps were compiled with pre-LE
translators?
