OPEN STORAGE THAT FITS THE MAINFRAME TOO | by Alan Earls

In the past, enterprise class storage was usually developed for
mainframe environments, and then adapted to open systems
environments. But open systems have different architectural needs,
making it a questionable compromise - until now. Fujitsu is the first
to design enterprise class storage specifically for open systems with
connectivity to S/390. Read more about the GR740 in this tip

SEARCH390 DISCUSSION FORUMS | Sound Off

Search390 user "Sydney" is wondering how IBM and Hitachi will work
towards interoperability. "I've heard that IBM is working with
Hitachi to promote interoperable storage networking solutions. What
will the benefit of this be where NAS and SANs are concerned? Do you
know anything about this pairing? What will this mean as far as cost
and support?"

THE MISSING LINK | Mobile e-mail saves polar explorer's life

Forget about the American Express card. These days you might not want
to leave home without your Internet connection. When explorer David
Mill wound up on thin ice during a recent North Pole expedition his
mobile Net hookup bailed him out. Mill was trapped on an ice floe
and being stalked by a polar bear when he e-mailed Canadian rescue
teams a digital photo of his location. A chopper answered Mill's call
and plucked him from danger. Just think what Columbus could've
discovered had he only had a BlackBerry!
