HOW MUCH SLOWER IS MQ VS. FTP? | by Clayton Ching

Dear Ask the Expert,
I work with a client who recently implemented an application that
involves MQSeries transfers between an OS/390 MF and a RS6000 H80.
The app developers think the transfer is too slow because FTP is much
faster. The problem transfer is 600meg over a T1 with a lot of
concurrent traffic. How much slower is MQ as compared to FTP for the
same data and same link?

NEED HELP SETTING UP LINUX LPARS ON IFL? | by Jan Lahmann

Dear Ask the Expert,
I'm setting up four Linux LPARs running on an IFL in MP 3000. One
image is connected to the network using ethernet - we call it the
router. The other three images are linked to the router using escon
channels. We call these images Samba, Apache 1 and Apache 2. You
probably already get an idea on what they have to do.

I'm currently doing the Samba installation on the Samba image. I've
got it working for the most part but the remaining problem is that
the Samba server won't show up in the network neighborhood. Also, SMB
name resolving on the Samba image for computers other than Samba
itself fails. Because this browsing thing uses broadcasts, I've got a
feeling that these are not getting out properly onto the network.

HOW TO PROCESS FILES BY ABSOLUTE GENERATION NUMBER? | by Gerhard Adam

Dear Ask the Expert,
I send files to my mainframe using RJE. The file creates a +1
generation dataset. The creation of that dataset triggers an FTP job
to a second site using a +0 generation. The problem is that if
several files being sent from the RJE are too close together, then by
the time the FTP job executes, it will really be using the second
file as the +0 generation and skip the first file. I do not have a
way to control the timing of the files being sent to the mainframe.
Is there a way to insure that each file is processed by identifying
the absolute generation +0?

SEARCH390 DISCUSSION FORUMS | Developer

Search390 member "GregLee" posted the following in the Developer
forum and needs your help: "I have a text file that I would like to
use as input for a mainframe batch job. I am submitting (batching) my
JCLs via VM/CMS. The problem is that I don't know how to get this PC
file up to the mainframe given the resources that I have.

"I have no access to FTP, and I don't have a TSO account. The only
file transfer mechanism I have is the one that comes with Attachmate
EXTRA!, but I can only use that to upload to a CMS file.

"Aside from the brute force method of using IEBGENER, and making the
PC file text an in-stream dataset to SYSUT1, how can I upload a PC
text file to an MVS dataset?"

suggestions. Click to post a response:
