SHARP RISE IN WEB SITE DEFACEMENTS ON LINUX SERVERS | News: IDG According to one security consultancy, the number of defacements of Web sites on Linux-based systems rose significantly in the first half of 2002. By comparison, defacements of systems running Microsoft's Internet Information Services Web server software were down 20%. The reason, they say, is because of delays in installing security systems and fixes for holes. IBM EARNINGS SLAMMED BY REORGANIZATION, JOB CUTS | News: Assoc. This question was recently posed by Search390 user "plotzeling" in the Developer forum and received a thread of responses: "The problem I personally have with the modernization effort is -- is it worth the effort? The mainframers are used to their current tools, which sure aren't as flashy as the new tools, but they work and I believe in the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." What do you think? Have you seen an improvement in productivity after modernizing a mainframe environment. There's a way out! Have you ever said to yourself, "Wow, my job really sucks"? Allen Cohen, a self-help expert who wrote the book "Why Your Life Sucks," says he's noticed more and more people in IT are not happy in their pressure-packed cubicle confines. Why? Maybe because of the constant pressures or the shaky economy -- or maybe they really just want to dance! Regardless, Cohen's advice if you think your life sucks is to take a quick nap or even a vacation. Charge those batteries! If you get laid off or decide to quit, think of it as an opportunity to prioritize. Maybe you could spend more time with your family or actually pursue something you WANT to do.
