A letter from the Editor
By BJ Rama

Recently, a few Search390 members asked me about our TargetSearch feature. Here's the lowdown. Instead of being a general-purpose search engine that returns mostly irrelevant and often useless information, or even a directory that is limited in scope and becomes outdated quickly, TargetSearch searches only a select group of pre-qualified sites as well as our own original content. The Search390 team personally chose these few hundred sites based on their update frequency, relevance, and content quality. And since it's powered by Google, you know it's fast!

TargetSearch is really one of the best ways to find quality mainframe-related info amidst the chaos of the Web. Go ahead, give it a try!

Have a great week folks.

BJ

>> Search390 member "reports" needs your help with, you guessed it... reports.
"A lot of time my users wish to have their huge reports from the mainframe printers in the A4 size format. I used a transfer utility in my Extra! session to do it but the report comes out with bad alignment. Does anyone out there know a way to get around this problem? Or if you know of any third party software out there that can do the job?"

Know the answer? Practice a random act of kindness by posting it here.

>> Calling all DB2 experts! Can you figure this out for "Gandolf"?
"We are installing DB2 v6 on a Multiprise 2003 running OS/390 2.10. We are a new DB2 customer. The installation seems to have gone OK but we are having a problem with the IVP. Specifically job DSNTEJ1 step PH01S22 abends with a 0C4 RC=10. We do not know why we are getting a storage problem when all this step does is try to do a "INSERT INTO EMP VALUES(...)" statement. If I bypass the rest of this job and proceed with the IVP I get a 0C4 RC=10 on job DSNTEJ2A in step UNLOAD. In this case this step consists of three statements:
LOCK TABLE DSN8610.DEPT IN SHARE MODE
SELECT * FROM DSN8610.DEPT
SELECT * FROM DSN8610.VPHONE

I ran the UNLOAD step with each of the above statements separately and the only one that failed on a 0C4 RC=10 is the "SELECT * FROM DSN8610.DEPT. We have been in contact with IBM on this with no resolution so far. If anyone can give us some tips on what to look for it will be very much appreciated."
