Networked storage is the right idea but, today, it creates as many
problems as it solves. You embraced networked storage and now you're
in survival mode. Storage growth is exploding but your budget has
been cut, you're short-staffed, and new technologies to "make things
easier" haven't yet lived up to their promises. You can't stand
still. Apply to attend the free Storage Decisions 2002 conference and
learn the strategies you can put to work immediately to solve today's
storage challenges without sacrificing long-term growth options and
storage flexibility. http://www.storagedecisions.com

DOS AND DON'TS OF CLASSLOADER ISSUES IN WAS 4.X | by Stephen Swoyer

Managing WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 4.x classloader issues is
a difficult and onerous task for accomplished application developers.
For those new to WebSphere, however, it can be downright befuddling.

WAS uses four different classloaders. First, there's the
J2EE-compliant Java Classloader, which uses the CLASSPATH environment
variable to load classes.

WAS uses three other classloaders, as well. There's WebSphere
Classloader, a WebSphere-specific classloader which uses a
ws.ext.dirs environment variable to load classes; there's an
Application Extension (AEX) classloader, which loads JARs from the
<WAS>/lib/app directory and which manages -- you guessed it --
application extensions; and there's a Module Classloader that loads
all of the modules used in the server.

NEED RESOURCES ON WEB-ENABLING LEGACY APPS? | by Jim Keohane

Dear Ask the Expert,
I am looking for some books or Web sites that offer best practices
for Web-enabling legacy applications. I have read many white papers
from different companies, including IBM, but most of them try to
market their product offerings more instead of explaining the
technologies behind them.
