Every so often, our editors allow the Site Manager to use this space and tell you about new features on Search390.com, or remind you about features you may have forgotten. This is my week, and I have decided to touch on the great new Data Center Futures newsletter that will debut next week.
If you are involved in the management of an enterprise data center, you know how hard it can be to make decisions without all the information you need. Quite often you are called upon to predict what will happen in the future to make crucial decisions today. The data used to make these decisions can vary and collecting it all can be difficult- if not impossible.
We created the Data Center Futures newsletter to present of the information you need to make informed decisions, in a format that is easy to use, futuristic and fun to read. This newsletter pulls together the thoughts of industry analysts, IT managers and data center experts and addresses:
* A five-year forecast with a focus on the next year or two in particular
* What IT professionals should be doing now to prepare for the future
* Management strategies
* The advent of emerging technologies
* And more!
Simply access your profile and then click "Edit all Email Subscriptions" to add Data Center Futures.

Systems forum: "Is there any routine or program
that allows Linux, running on the mainframe under z/VM, to read QSAM
files from a shared disk that are created by OS/390 also running
under z/VM?"
Think you know the answer? If so, please share your thoughts and

Perils of programming for a plethora of platforms
By Jim Keohane
You think you have the perfect development platform. Maybe an old P390. Perhaps a fast workstation emulating a mainframe via x/EFS, Flex-ES, UMX or Hercules. You're in hog heaven, or so you think. You're probably right but... There are some issues to consider, like performance, network traffic, time lapse monitoring and threading, multitasking, and shared memory features.
