HOW CAN I IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF A DFSORT STEP? | by Mark Zelden

Dear Ask the Expert,
I'm trying to improve the performance of a DFSORT step for one of my
customers. My input file is a VSAM KSDS and output a QSAM file. The
VSAM dataset has no buffers specified in the JCL and hence defaults
to BUFND=2 and BUFNI=1. The elapsed time of the step is mostly due to
I/O on these 2 files. (High EXCP counts).
My question is (I've tried this technique succesfully in other
application programs but not sure whether it'll work for DFSORT). Can
you shed some light on it?
