The MODIFY command (abbreviated F) is used to send information or a command to a running batch job. How can your batch job know a command or message has been sent? I am thinking of using the TSO service facility but would like to either buffer the results in storage, or provide a unique DDNAME (i.e. not SYSTSPRT). The reason for this is multi-tasking; there is a requirement to run several of these concurrently. My only idea so far is to encapsulate the command within Rexx -- but I'd like to avoid Rexx altogether. >> CLICK for Mark's expert response: http://search390.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid10_cid506445_tax287555,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= WHY ARE BATCH JOBS NOT RELEASING STORAGE? | by Jim Keohane Dear Ask the Expert, How can I research why batch jobs are leaving orphaned memory in ECSA and ESQA at end of job? The MVS systems programmer sent me a report from RMF showing the amount of storage not released at end of job, and he wants me to do something about it. These batch jobs are primarily COBOL programs with some SORTS thrown in. Some of the programs use MQSeries and CIMS calls (part of ImagePlus High Performance Transaction System). I'm a little suspicious of those calls, since they may use common storage to transfer data from one address space to another. Any hints on what to look for? >> CLICK for Jim's expert response: http://search390.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid10_cid505944_tax285123,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= IBM GETS BIG BENEFITS FROM OPEN-SOURCE | News: iSeries Network A recent report praises IBM for the benefits its open-source initiatives have contributed to users. Unfortunately, the old-school way of getting an IT job isn't just old, it's ineffective. This tip explains why you should explore open-source options and ignore Linux at your own risk. >> CLICK for the full tip: http://search390.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid10_gci859115,00.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= PROGRAMMING | Search390.com Best Web Links This Best Web Links section covers all of the major programming languages used on the mainframe. This question, posed by a Search390.com user, has received several responses in the Developer forum: "I've been searching everywhere for a routine to convert local time to UTC in PL/I. I have a program that needs the UTC added to the RCVTIME parameter. I've hard-coded the current UTC (-0500), but I would like to generate it through PL/I so that when DTS happens, it will automatically change to -0600 and vice-versa." >> CLICK to read the full discussion: http://search390.discussions.techtarget.com/WebX?[EMAIL PROTECTED]@.ee83ff7/669!viewtype=convdate&skip=&expand= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= TAKE OUR POLL | Search390.com Is your company handing out holiday bonuses this year? >> CLICK to post your response: http://search390.techtarget.com/poll =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= YEAR-END SURVEY | Tell us what you think We need your help!
