ARE ACCEPTS UNACCEPTABLE? | by Jim Keohane

Your shop may have restrictions on using COBOL's CONSOLE operations.
Some may allow just a DISPLAY 'MESSAGE TEXT' UPON CONSOLE while
prohibiting an ACCEPT OPERATOR-RESPONSE FROM CONSOLE. They do so
because the two CONSOLE operations often get disassociated as the
'MESSAGE TEXT' scrolls off the operator's screen. Wondering how to
keep the association on the operator screen? Better yet, want just to
test periodically for a response while you're doing other things?
Find out how in this tip.

NEED HELP FTPING TO REMOTE SERVER? | Developer forum

Search390.com user "ftpqns" posted the following in the Developer
forum: "I need help setting up an FTP batch job from mainframe MVS to
a remote server. The only twist here is that the file needs to be
saved with date/time on the remote server. Are there any FTP commands
to append the date/time to a remote file name or JCL commands to get
the system date/time, pass it as a parameter to FTP and append it to
a remote file name?"

THE MISSING LINK | Smile riles French authorities

A teenager in France proved that he's no Jerry Lewis, otherwise
French authorities might have thought the 19-year-old computer wiz
was funny. He was scheduled for a court hearing on drunk driving
charges, and as he waited for his turn at justice, he noticed an
unattended computer. The Gallic geek managed to get into the court
database, delete his file and add a smiley face in its place. That
was the only smile in the building. The court fined him and yanked
his driver's license for three months.
