Since Linux was first spotted on analyst radar screens in 1994, it has seen dramatic growth, gaining market share and emerging as a fast, inexpensive, flexible e-business infrastructure that some say has helped redefine the mainframe's image as "cool". The list of enterprises that are investing in Linux include Unilever and the PGA Tour, whose commitment to the operating system will help encourage its continued development and adoption. Or will it?
