 From the Editor:

by Robyn Lorusso, Assistant Editor

Linux has come a long way over the past decade and many enterprises have taken notice.

Since Linux was first spotted on analyst radar screens in 1994, it has seen dramatic growth, gaining market share and emerging as a fast, inexpensive, flexible e-business infrastructure that some say has helped redefine the mainframe's image as "cool". The list of enterprises that are investing in Linux include Unilever and the PGA Tour, whose commitment to the operating system will help encourage its continued development and adoption.

Or will it?

Do you have a Linux strategy in the works? If so, please describe it. If not, what are your reservations? What would you like to use Linux for initially or in the long term? Do you already see value in Linux, but are having trouble convincing management? Let us know what's on your Linux agenda.

Have a good week!

Tip of the Week:
Roll your own CICS socket "speaker"
By Jim Keohane
You already know that CICS Socket Listener transaction (CSKL) handles all inbound socket requests.
