The system, which is the successor to the 32-processor p690 Regatta, will feature the much-touted Power5 processor. This Unix server is said to come closest so far to matching the capabilities of the company's vaunted mainframe systems. STUDY: MORE COMPANIES CONSIDER MAINFRAMES | News: CNET According to a recent Merrill Lynch study, corporate IT buyers are considering IBM's mainframes, desktop PCs and Shark storage, but fewer are looking at Big Blue's low-end servers, notebooks and services. IBM TOPS IN LINUX SERVER REVENUE | News: CNET Sales of Linux servers are up in the U.S. with IBM taking the bulk of that business. Big Blue raked in some $159.9 million in sales from $75.6 million a year earlier. Total Linux server revenue in the fourth quarter was up 90%. By contrast, overall U.S. server revenue climbed just 5% in the fourth quarter compared with a year earlier. Dell's "Steven" busted Dell's goofy, young PC pitchman, whom the company has been weeding out of its commercials, has weeded his way into the NYPD computer system. It seems "Steven," a.k.a. Benjamin Curtis, got busted in the Big Apple. Police claim the 22-year-old Curtis, a student at NYU, was carrying a bag of illicit flora, better known as marijuana. It's still too early to tell if the charge means Curtis' stint as Dell's spokesman will officially go to pot. Those bumbling interns currently in the commercials might be around a little longer.
