It ended up cutting a deal with IBM, eventually purchasing some 31TB of storage while Big Blue manages the bank's backup facility. GARTNER: IBM POISED FOR IT SPENDING UPSWING | The Four Hundred Gartner analysts are forecasting forecasting a general upturn for the technology sector and added that IBM is the company best positioned to take advantage of the pending turnaround. IBM UNVEILS HEFTY STORAGE CONTROLLER | CNET IBM unveiled a SAN controller last week specially configured on X-Series IBM servers to ensure reliability. The new software uses four 2-gigabit-per-second Fibre Channel interfaces, a 4GB cache and dual 2.4GHz Pentium 4 chips to manage heterogeneous hard-disk storage independently of application servers--which is known as storage virtualization. SUN PLANS PER-EMPLOYEE ORION PRICING | CNET Sun is nearing the final decision on how its customers will pay for Orion, the company's plan to integrate all of its server software into Solaris. Sun's executive vice president of software, Jonathan Schwartz, says rates for the Orion package will be linked to the size of a company's staff. Schwartz also confirmed plans to do away with Sun's own version of Linux and said the first version of Orion will be available later this year.
