FEATURED TIP | Mainframes are from Mars; workstations are from Venus

Mainframes are EBCDIC; Workstations are ASCII?

Not so fast, code page breath! Linux/390 is pure ASCII. There is
little, if anything, in mainframe hardware that can be described as
EBCDIC-based. Want some more assumptions upended or just twisted,
read on!

WHAT DOES MVS AND LPAR MEAN? | Ask the Expert

According to the tutorial, the Title Line's CPU field is divided into
'MVS'/'LPAR.' What exactly do those mean? I can't seem to find an
explanation anywhere. I know the fields are populated by RMF that we
do not have, but our BMC Mainview CMF product populates them as well.
Do the different products provide different information for those
fields?

FEATURED WHITE PAPER | The Dinosaur Myth

This white paper shows why the mainframe is the cheapest solution for
most organizations. Xephon published the first edition of The
Dinosaur Myth ten years ago, during the height of the 'downsizing'
craze. They decided to publish a new edition primarily because the
cost comparison had recently changed dramatically in favor of the
mainframe.

THE MISSING LINK | New med. bar codes could be worth a pound of cure

Bar codes -- they help make sure the price is right for your
groceries, and now they're ensuring that the Rx is right for your
body. Fans of the scans think the technology could keep potentially
fatal bloopers, such as wrong medicines and dosages, away.
