How can a "linked" CICS program handle multiple concurrent requests
and return only the completion result of the caller once it has

DON'T LIVE WITH THE DEADLY EMBRACE | Ask the Expert

>From time to time I get what is known as a deadly embrace between two
CICS applications. One will die and the other will go into a
suspended status and will not abend without terminating the
transaction manually. Can I use the DTIMOUT parameter for the two
CICS transactions? Also, how should I set the DTIMOUT parsmeter?

CICS TRANSACTIONS THAT SUCK THE LIFE OUT OF THE CPU | Ask the Expert

My applications folks now have a new batch-like CICS transaction that
runs for 4-5 hours at month's end, usually during day shift. Since
I've moved from a three CP 2003-2C5 to a single CP 2066-0A1 (z/800)
I've noticed this transaction can suck 50% of the CPU all by itself.
Do you have any slick ideas for keeping such a transaction from
hogging the system?

THE INFORMATION ARCHITECT | Using Web services to integrate

More companies are using Web services to expose the data in their
legacy applications to browser-equipped servers, mobile devices and
other new types of systems. But this is a relatively new endeavor,
one that's been explored by only a handful of companies to date, and
it's not necessarily a good idea for those just starting out with Web
services.
