DEVELOPER TIP | Another method of third-party FTP

You may remember earlier Search390 tip(s) or Ask-The-Expert responses
that mentioned third-party FTP. That's where a single user, running a
proxy FTP client, can direct two remote servers to exchange file
contents.

For a more visual transcription of this approach (using simultaneous
side-by-side telnet sessions to the control port of each FTP server)
check this tip out!

This can be used as specifications for your own code FTP'ing astride
two servers.

FEATURED TOPIC | VSAM performance tuning

Tuning your VSAM datasets is a great way to delay or possibly avoid a
CPU upgrade, improve the run-time of your programs and greatly cut
your online response time.

MIGRATION AND VTAPE | OS/390 Systems Programming

We are poised to migrate to OS/390 2.10, (from 2.8) and shortly
thereafter, to a new box and to new EMC DASD. We would like to use
the old DASD for a few months to help us migrate tapes. We use CA's
VTAPE solution and IBM's HSM. I'm looking for a way/product that will
let me use the old, emptied DASD as "disk cache" to help me convert
current 3480 TAPE datasets to STK 3590.

MORE ON AUTOINSTALLING TN3270 | CICS

In your earlier response, you suspected that terminals were not being
deleted and that the model attributes were being preserved across
sessions. Our problem is much more basic than that. We do not know
how to determine bind or model information within our AUTOINSTALL
program. Our delete and add flow in AUTOINSTALL is working as you
suggested. Terminals are deleted when they logout or disconnect from
our TOR.

IBM NABS CALIFORNIA WELFARE CONTRACT | News

California has awarded an $801 million contract to IBM to consolidate
the state's ailing child-support computer systems. IBM has
subcontracted out part of the project to Accenture and American
Management Systems (AMS). Accenture will develop the child-support
application, while AMS will implement the system in the more than 50
counties and administrative regions in California.

THE MISSING LINK | Ask Jeeves, not Google

Have you "googled" for weapons of mass destruction yet? Everyone's
doing this Google gag. You enter "weapons of mass destruction" in the
search box, click "I'm feeling lucky," and voila -- you get a
seemingly real error page that says, "These weapons of mass
destruction cannot be displayed. The country might be experiencing
technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your weapons
inspectors mandate." The page suggests you click "the regime change
button, or try again later." A British pharmacist came up with the
goof. It caught fire among surfers and became the top-ranked page
among Google visitors searching for "weapons of mass destruction."
