From the Editor: Is IBM renewing interest in the mainframe?

by Mark Brunelli, Site Editor

Many vendors out there want you to believe that the mainframe is heading the way of the dinosaur. For years, they've been sending the message that mainframe technologies are too inflexible and outdated to survive in a networked world.

IBM points to the expanded capabilities of the new z990 Enterprise Server, and recent news about the great potential of Linux, as proof that the mainframe is stronger than ever.

It's clear that IBM is fighting a constant battle to improve the mainframe's image. Do you think they're winning? Will the release of the z990 and recent news about Linux redefine the mainframe and lead to an influx of new sales?

Read the selected articles in this week's Search390.com Featured Topic and decide for yourself. When finished, send us an e-mail with your opinions on the topic. Your comments might end up in a future Search390.com news article.
