FEATURED TIP | Planning your upgrade to DB2 v7.1

Considering a DB2 upgrade? If so then read this tip by Jim Schesvold
and John Irwin. It lays out the questions you should ask yourself
before tackling the upgrade. The tip also offers some important
considerations. For example, did you know DB2 V6 can no longer be
ordered from IBM?

ASK THE EXPERT | z/OS using FTP client

A member asked Web integration expert Jim Keohane:

"When receiving a file on the mainframe from Unix using FTP, we are
only receiving an LF at the end of each line. We need a CR and LF.
What is the best way to handle this problem?"

FEATURED WHITE PAPER | Murach's OS/390 and z/OS JCL - Chapter 21

IBM mainframes now simulate functions that allow them to work as
UNIX-based servers. Chapter 21 of Murach's OS/390 and z/OS JCL, "How
to Use UNIX System Services," introduces you to the commands and JCL
that let you handle files designed for UNIX on your IBM system.

JOIN THE DISCUSSION | Column names not returned from Stored Procedure

In our Developer forum, "pedjajov" asked:

"I wrote a Stored Procedure on Mainframe. It is defined in multiple
DB2 subsystems. When I run it in SP Builder connected to one of these
DB2 subsystems I have column names returned. When I do the same
connected to other DB2 subsystem it returns only numbers fro column
names. The same is if it is called from Java code. What can be the
reason for this?"

THE MISSING LINK | New York holds spam 'tasteless' test

Maybe spam isn't totally worthless. The Consumer Protection Board of
New York is holding a sort of spam beauty contest, and it is inviting
people to enter examples of the most outrageous e-mail scams that
have invaded their inboxes. So, what's the first-place prize?
Nothing. And for second place? The winner gets bologna, which is what
consumer advocates hope that people realize e-mail offers such as the
Nigerian lost fortune really are. You can forward your best bologna
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The contest ends May 2. May the best
spam win! (The Associated Press)
