FEATURED NEWS STORY | Users get the buzz on 'Stinger'

IBM unveiled more technical details of the next version of its DB2
Universal Database, code named 'Stinger.' By automating features deep
within the database, Big Blue is giving DBAs time to work on more
meaningful projects, according to the database's lead architect.

FEATURED TOPIC | Mainframe trivia mania

Mr. Know-IT-All is back with a new quiz, but he promises its shorter
size does not mean it's easier. In fact, he intends this for
mainframers who know IBM wasn't the only Big Iron maker in town. Did
you know GE made mainframes long before it owned NBC? If you do, then
this quiz is for you. Do you think you have what it takes? You can
jump ahead to questions or start from the beginning by clicking on
the link below. Good luck!

ASK THE EXPERT | Compatibility issues between PKZIP and z/OS

A search390.com user asked Jim Schesvold, our z/OS expert:

"We are operating z/OS 1.3 and executing PKWARE's PKZIP (V5.6.ob) on
the mainframe. Have you heard anything regarding possible
compatibility issues with z/OS 1.4?"

ASK THE EXPERT | How to go from VS COBOL II to Cobol for OS/390

A Search390.com user asked Tom Ross, our COBOL, PL/I and LE for S/390
programming expert:

"Do I need to make code changes in order to convert VS COBOL II
programs to IBM COBOL for OS/390 and VM? Or, do I just need to
recompile them using the latest compiler?"

JOIN THE DISCUSSION | Load fail for a large CICS program

In our operating systems forum, a user asked:

"We have a C++ Application Program having a size of 20 MB. We are not
able to load the program on our CICS region. When we do a CEMT SET
NEW PROG for this, it gives a load failed for this. The other
programs in the same load library which have lesser size can be
loaded without any problems. Is there some changes to be done on the
CICS region parameters or so to make this possible. Or is there a
limit on the size of the load module(program) that can be loaded in
CICS? The problem is that the application has to be run on the client
side, and they have the capability of loading programs upto 21MB."

THE MISSING LINK | American Idol voting slammed

If you don't have three hours to waste, you might want to avoid
voting for the next winner of Fox's hit show, "American Idol." A
recent investigation into the show's telephone and text message
voting process has revealed that phone phreakers are jamming the
voting lines to influence the contest's results. Betting on the
winners and losers for the glorified karaoke contest can apparently
result in a big payday. (E! Online)
