MULTIPLE STARTS ON THE SAME CICS TRANSACTION | Ask the Expert

A Search390.com user asked Phil Emrich, our guest CISC expert:

" ... However, when I try to do this CICS starts multiple copies of
the started transaction. The started transaction does not have a
terminal related to it. So I guess my question is can I do multiple
starts on the same transaction and have CICS only start one copy of
that transaction or should I be using a Transient Data Queue?"

BINDING TO THE PROPER SUBSYSTEM | Ask the Expert

A Search390.com user asked Craig Mullins, our DB2 and database
management expert:

"I have a question regarding DB2 systems and the use of subsystems
... We recently developed a new database in the TEST0B subsystem. I
noticed that the TEST01 subsystem was looking at the TEST0B. I was
told the bind dictates the subsystem you are looking at, but that it
is stored at the system level. If I want to test the same program in
both TEST01 and TEST0B, does the last bind of the program dictate
where it is pointing? Will there need to be two separate DB2 systems
to accomplish this?"

FEATURED WHITE PAPER | z/OS migration workbook: Table of contents

This workbook consolidates all relevant information into a single
reference, and will continue to be updated. The workbook specifically
identifies any multi-release migration considerations and is based on
an actual OS/390 2.10-to-z/OS 1.4 migration performed at the IBM
Poughkeepsie z/OS test facility. It was updated in February 2003
based on customer experiences and feedback, and includes a new
"Summary of Changed Interfaces" appendix.

THE MISSING LINK | Troy vey -- 'Illiad' translated 2 text

Just when you thought translating "Hamlet" into Klingon was the
geekiest thing ever, this story comes along. According to published
reports in Australia, Microsoft is translating "The Illiad" into text
-- as in text messages. So far Microsoft has trimmed 37,000 words
into 32 lines ("Helen went 2 watch from da walls"), complete with
smiley face icons. It's like CliffsNotes for people who don't have
the attention span for CliffsNotes or the time to sit through "Troy."
