EXPERT WEBCAST
IMS meets the Web
WHEN: TODAY! June 23 at 12:00 p.m. EDT (16:00 GMT)
SPEAKER: Jim Keohane, Software Developer/Consultant, Multi-Platforms, Inc.
SPONSOR :   Xbridge

ABOUT THE WEBCAST:
When most mainframers hear web-enabling a database, they think connecting DB2 to the web. But IMS, IBM's older database, is just as web worthy. IMS is geared for fast and frequent access. You can directly attach IMS to the web or go via CICS or DB2. At first, mainframers may balk at connecting their IMS databases to the web. But it does make sense and can be done quite easily.
  • IMS is geared for fast and frequent access.
  • Options abound for ways to connect it to the web. One can go direct to IMS or via CICS or DB2. One could also use an application server (on a mainframe or an intermediary workstation). MQ or OTMA are also options.
  • The security implications of connecting an IMS database to the web are very addressable, not that different than connecting a DB2 database.
To hear more about webifying an IMS database, you should check out this webcast with Jim Keohane, software developer and consultant with Multi-Platforms, Inc.
