SEARCH390.COM FEATURED TOPIC | Windows vs. the mainframe

Just a few years ago, no one would have thought Windows would replace
the mainframe. But some companies are jumping the Big Iron ship for
Windows. Is this a trend?

WHAT HAPPENS TO VISUALAGE APPS WHEN MIGRATING TO Z/OS? | Ask the
Expert

A Search390.com user asked Jim Schesvold, our z/OS migration expert:

"We want to migrate from OS/390 V2R9 (IBM 2003-20/) to Z/OS v1rx
(z/series IBM 2086-210). We are programming in VisualAge for CSP with
the IBM VisualAge Generator Developer for OS/2 v2.2. And we have the
VisualAge Generator server 1.2.0 in the mainframe. If we migrate to
z/OS, what happen with the programs written in VisualAge for CSP? I
don't find this product in the z/OS operating system."

A QUICK WAY TO DETERMINE THE CREATION DATE OF A TAPE | Ask the Expert

A Search390.com user asked Mark Zelden, our OS/390 and z/OS systems
programming expert:

"I'm looking for a command that will retrieve the creation date of a
tape. I have been told that listtsi will work for a dataset on disk
and was wondering if there was an equivalent for tape. My background
is mostly in application programming in this environment and not in
systems programming so I am not real familiar with the use of clists
and ispflibs and was wondering also if you could give me an example
of how a command like listtsi would be used."

THE MISSING LINK | A novel idea -- book goes out via text message

You've heard of hardback and paperback -- now get ready for cellback.
In a case of truth being much stranger than fiction, an author in
China has written a book to be read via text message -- perfect for
the leisure reader on the go. The 60 chapters of "Outside the
Fortress Besieged" will come to a reader's cell phone in 70-word
increments and is expected to do well in China, where people get much
of their information via text message. It's kind of a romance novel,
and will be a test to see if romance can succeed without Fabio on the
cover. (Associated Press)
