Micro Focus sees mainframes from both sides now

Micro Focus has released a version of its COBOL tool that it claims not only generates applications for IBM mainframes, but also builds the components necessary for connecting those apps to Web services or to .NET or J2EE applications.

Friday was a long day's journey into knighthood for Tim Berners-Lee. Queen Elizabeth II knighted him for that handy little invention of his -- the World Wide Web. Berners-Lee now adds knight commander -- the second-highest rank of the Order of the British Empire -- to his list of accolades. You may call him Sir Berners-Lee, but don't call him surly -- he used the regal occasion to thank everyone who had helped him with his creation.
