THE NEED TO RECOMPILE WHEN MIGRATING | Ask the Expert

A Search390.com user asked Tom Ross, our programming expert:

"We are migrating from MVS COBOL and COBOL II from OS/390 V3.R7 to
Z/OS 1.4 ENTERPRISE COBOL. Do we need to recompile to run MVS COBOL
and COBOL II? What about CICS to migrate? We currently use CICS/ESA
V4.1.0 -- our "Transaction Server" -- do we need some code change or
just recompile? Do we need any code change to migrate? Do we need all
COBOL programs comply with COBOL 85? What are minimum requirements
for migration?"

FEATURED TOPIC | When Tux met Big Iron: The quiz

It's a fact of life that opposites often work beautifully together.
Nothing goes better with fiery buffalo wings than cool, creamy blue
cheese dressing. Linux on the mainframe is very similar. It's the
perfect wedding of the reliable and stable zSeries platform with the
flexibility and innovation of Linux. This week, the editors of
Search390.com have created a quiz to test your knowledge of Big Iron
Linux.

DOWNLOAD | Free chapter from "Murach's Mainframe COBOL"

Search390.com has a free chapter from "Murach's Mainframe COBOL" just
for you. The chapter is an overview of writing COBOL applications for
the mainframe. It'll introduce the mainframe facilities that are
integral to COBOL programming such as ISPF, JCL, CICS, and DB2.

THE MISSING LINK | So much for the 'Can Spam' Act!

If spamming were an Olympic event, the U.S. would get the gold and
maybe even a few endorsement deals. An e-mail security firm found
that nearly 90% of the spam sent during the past four months was made
in the U.S. Most of it was not exactly wholesome either; a lot of the
digital bilge might make Dr. Ruth blush. Oh, and get this, according
to CipherTrust (which surveyed the spamscape), about 200 people are
responsible for most of the spam. So to paraphrase Winston Churchill,
never in the history of correspondence was so much frustration felt
by so many, thanks to the annoying habits of so few. (Silicon.com)
