Tools to automate and share
[Search390.com]
A Search390.com user asked: We are using a StorageTek 9310 library station with units 9840, 9940 (emulated in z/OS as 3490). Can the drives be used by z/Linux SuSE running under z/VM and shared with z/OS partition?

Running Linux under VM share tape library drives

Migration and VTAPE
[Search390.com]
A Search390.com user asked: We are poised to migrate to OS/390 2.10 and shortly thereafter, to a new box and to new EMC DASD. We would like to use the old DASD for a few months to help us migrate tapes. We use CA's VTAPE solution and IBM's HSM. It doesn't seem that VTAPE can handle more than one instance on an LPAR nor does VTAPE seem to have any way to delete added LDS files when they are no longer needed. I'm looking for a way/product that will let me use the old, emptied DASD as "disk cache" to help me convert current 3480 TAPE datasets to STK 3590.

WEBCAST:  IMS meets the Web!
If you said Web-enabling a database, most people probably think you mean connecting DB2 to the Web. But IMS, IBM's older database, is just as Web worthy. IMS is geared for fast and frequent access. You can directly attach IMS to the Web or go via CICS or DB2. In this Webcast, Jim Keohane will discuss
