ADVICE:
Cloning your system
A Search390.com user asked Mark Zelden, our OS/390 and z/OS systems programming expert:
I'm creating a dual SYSRES environment with z/OS 1.4 where each SYSRES environment relates to a unique SMP/E zone. While IPL'd on SYSRSA, I can apply maintenance to SYSRSB, test the maintenance in a test LPAR then IPL the production LPAR on SYSRSB. Then, maintenance can be applied to SYSRSA...continuing on with this logic...bouncing between SYSRSA and SYSRSB as production RESVOLs. How can I modify the SMP/E DDDEF statements that point to /usr..., /sample... and /bin... paths to point to the
root system on the correct RES vol? For example, the MVST100 target zone DDDEFs should point to datasets on MVSRSA while the MVST200 target zone DDDEFs should point to datasets on MVSRSB.

Hunting little green men nets IT guy big pink slip
[Associated Press]
It's not such an alien concept to be fired for looking up raunchy Web sites at work. And evidently, it's not such an alien concept to be fired for hunting aliens. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services awarded a fresh pink slip to a staff computer programmer who ran Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence software on the department's server. The E.T. hunter, who boldly went where no department staffer had gone before, said
he didn't think it would be a problem because he ran the program after-hours and on weekends. But the Buckeye boss wasn't having any of it, and told the press that the guy obviously didn't find intelligent life in the mirror. Ouch!
