Using an open cursor to scroll forward and backward

A Search390.com user asked: Given a table, my application specification requires me to position somewhere in the middle of the set of records and then fetch records either forward (increasing sort key order) or backward depending on user selection. Is there a straightforward way of doing it in SQL a special way for table or query definition?

Error using FETCH ABSOLUTE in scrollable cursor

A Search390.com user asked: We are using DB2 V7 on OS/390 and trying scrollable cursors in a stored procedure. When we try to use the FETCH statement like: FETCH ABSOLUTE FROM INTO, it's throwing for the host variable and saying "variable should be zero scale." I had declared the variable as an INTEGER, and I even tried it with DECIMAL(n,0), but I get the same error.
