White Paper: Integrating Mainframe Legacy Data
Does your data integration solution focus on integrating data from database managers, but come up short when addressing non-relational, VSAM or IMS data? This free white paper "A New Approach to Old Data" outlines a flexible solution for accessing, integrating or migrating all types of complex mainframe data by easily exposing these data sources as a virtual database to Windows applications.

Dual core processors, software hosting and a number of other factors could contribute to rising software license fees, according to a study by Stamford, Conn.-based Gartner Inc.
Users divided on approach to DR
[SearchStorage.com]
Two companies' DR plans both leave out replication tools from EMC and Veritas, but that's where the similarities end. Where they diverge, is in the hardware vs. software approach.

FEATURED TOPIC:
JCL for newbies
Simply put, JCL is a language for describing jobs in the mainframe environment. This week's Featured Topic offers a wide variety of content for both JCL newbies and pros alike.
POLL:
Mainframe workers unite!
Unionization is one way mainframers can solve some of the problems they face. Would you be interested in joining a union? Do you think mainframers are white collar workers?
ADVICE:
Deleting unreachable code
A Search390.com user asked Tom Ross, our application development expert:
Does the "old" COBOL Compiler (PP 5668-958 IBM VS COBOL II Release 3.2 09/05/90) actually delete "unreachable code" when the "Optimize" compiler option is selected? Our shop is treating our conversion to LE COBOL as if this is a "new" problem that did not exist with the "Old Compiler"?

Rage against the machine -- for $52
[Reuters]
One of the many great scenes from the movie "Office Space" is when the fed up software guys take a Louisville Slugger to a particularly offensive copy machine. Life is imitating art in a little Spanish village. A junkyard operator in Lubia has become a sort of stress therapist for the digital age. For a mere $52, folks who're teched out and teed off can get in touch with their inner Luddite and take a sledgehammer to cell phones,
computers -- even cars and pictures of the boss. The junkyard provides the sledgehammer, helmet, overalls and goggles, as well as the heavy metal soundtrack -- you provide the rage. Each rage against the machine is limited to two hours, but no one has lasted more than 30 minutes so far. It's good cardio, too, so you'd think maybe this could be part of a holistic wellness program.
