Or are they still vital to the mainframer's continuing education in spite of how they've changed? Back in the pre-Web days, attending a conference was probably one of the best ways to learn about the platform. It provided mainframers a chance to network and learn from each other. For example, someone who had a question about whether to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of the OS would find invaluable information by attending a conference. Times have changed. Now, the Web allows mainframers to share information virtually. They can listen to webcasts to learn about a topic rather than attending a session at a conference. Last week we ran a Q&A with Robert Rosen, president of Share, the mainframe user group. To see the story, click here.
