FROM THE EDITOR

Is your title fact or fantasy?
[Edward Hurley, Editor]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have had many titles in my professional and private lives. Editor. Assistant news editor. Staff writer. Correspondent. Junior assistant scoutmaster.

At times, my title clearly described what I did. For example, I am currently the editor of Search390.com. Much of my time is spent editing content for the site so the title is pretty apt. On the other hand, some of my titles were more pomp than substance. For example, after I became an Eagle Scout, my Boy Scout troop made me a "junior assistant scoutmaster." I had no official duties. I was caught in the penumbra between being a scout and a scoutmaster.

So how would you describe your title? Does it precisely describe what you do? Or is your title what you received instead of getting the raise you deserve? How important is your title to you?

Let us know your thoughts. Send your comments by clicking here.

TIP: Dealing with a less-than-perfect data center location
The ideal location for a data center is not always the same as what corporate bigwigs want for cost or other factors. You can end up with a building that's optimized for neither.

NEWS: Tivoli revenue spiked by Candle power
Mainframe users will soon see new technology from IBM -- thanks to a successful implementation of Candle Corp., a mainframe management software company it purchased last year.
