LEAD STORY
"IBM spawns iSeries Nation"
Calling all success stories. As part of its new marketing
program, iSeries Nation, IBM is looking for anecdotes from
users that it can use to spread the word that the iSeries
is a machine of unprecedented power, reliability and
longevity. Here's a classic: A shop that was running an
AS/400 but had no idea the system, which never needed
maintenance, had actually been locked in an unused wire
closet for several years.

[1] "Further consolidation for IBM's eSeries"

[1] "Further consolidation for IBM's eSeries"
According to one analysis of IBM's eServer consolidation
push, the introduction of IBM's Power4 systems, the
migration of technologies such as the mainframe LPAR
logical partitioning onto other servers, and the
proliferation of Linux on the AS/400, are clear indications
that Big Blue is seriously focusing on selling single
eSeries server platforms with shared components, system
utilities and software in a specific operating system and
application packages.

[2] "Big Blue dives deeper into wireless"
IBM hopes that its new wireless devices, chips and
services, which it announced Monday, will create enthusiasm
among consumers and hardware manufacturers. IBM isn't
breaking much new ground with this latest wireless push,
but analysts say IBM's endorsement of wireless technologies
is significant, particularly at a time when many questions
about the future of the wireless industry are being raised.

[1] "Start your V5R1 capacity planning here"
There used to be a time when you could easily figure out
the value of your AS/400. This is not so true today. Now
the operating system and database are merged into the
latest AS/400 and iSeries machines, which makes it
difficult to assess how much of the cost of a machine is
hardware and how much is software. In this article the
writer covers how you can plan and calculate exactly what
you're getting for your money and help you start your V5R1
capacity planning. You'll find a lot of helpful information
here.

"E-mail bragging leaves associate jobless"
Here's a reminder to keep your e-mail ego in check. A young
associate with a multinational private-equity firm landed a
$100,000 job, got situated in a swank new apartment and
started dating some hot women. He apparently was so
impressed with himself that he bragged about it all in an
e-mail to friends. Eventually that e-mail wound up in his
boss's hands. He wasn't as impressed. Now the young hot
shot has no boss and no job. Just a guess, but the hot
women are probably gone, too.
