LEAD STORY
"Possible security holes uncovered in iSeries LDAP"
A hole has been found in several different implementations
of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP),
including IBM SecureWay, the LDAP server found in the
iSeries. Although iSeries aren't at a great risk, a patch
might not be a bad idea.

[1] "iSeries wants a dose of the mainframe's Linux
success"
IBM hopes it gets the same positive response for
Linux on the iSeries that its mainframe received. Since
Linux running in LPAR debuted on the mainframe in May 2000,
Big Blue has netted about 100 mainframe customers running
Linux.

[2] "IBM readies new DASD Availability Fixpack"
The word is out that IBM is getting ready to release a new
DASD Availability Fixpack for OS/400 V4R4, V4R5 and V5R1.
This change in the microcode will allow for proactive
detection of a failing drive through Service Director,
which will enable IBM to get in there and replace the drive
before it fails.

[3] "Duncan makes a statement about iSeries disk crashes"
Not much is being said about the fact that disks continue
to fail on the iSeres, but in a recent memo to IBM
executives Buell Duncan, general manager of the MidMarket
Server Division, which is in charge of the iSeries and
AS/400 platforms, sheds a little bit more light on the
subject.

"The humiliation virus"
Here's another really good reason not to put into writing
anything you wouldn't say aloud to a room full of people.
Sircam, the latest virus spreading on the Net, grabs a
random document from your computer's hard drive, hides
itself in the code, then passes on the infected document to
everyone in your digital address book. That means any
document on your hard drive is fair game for distribution
to practically everyone you know.
