Prudential will be able to offer customized front ends to its users without rewriting its applications. The company does this by separating the apps' business logic from the presentation scripting code. Approximately 90% of applications have common business functions, a Prudential spokeswoman told Computerworld. But thanks to strong sales in Unix boxes and mainframes, IBM's server sales grew 10.4%, according to a Dataquest report. Sun's and HP's dropped 15.4% and 10.6%, respectively. The gap widened in U.S. sales, as IBM's were up 13.9%, Sun's dropped 20.8% and HP's were down 25.6%.
