[1] "A small percentage of V5R1 CDs can have a killer bug"
It appears a small number of OS/400 V5R1 CDs have been shipping since
May with a bug that could cripple an installation of that operating
system. New CDs have been shipped. Even if users haven't experienced
any problems, they should still request an update.

[2] "Salaries continue to rise at OS/400 shops"
Apparently high turnover rates within IT shops have taught
the powers that be the importance of hiring people with
solid programming, development and management skills
Upshot: Salaries of those with the right skills continue to
rise.

[4] "End-to-end software: pulp or panacea?"
All-in-one systems management software sounds like every IT
manager's dream, but the reality of implementation can be
disappointing. Make sure you start with realistic
expectations and are aware of the pitfalls, then plan an
execution strategy.

THE MISSING LINK
A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web
----------------------------------------

"The U.S. of e"
Ever watch late night infomercials heralding the cheap
riches one can find at government auctions? Now, you only
have to log on to the Web to find such deals. That's right,
the U.S. government is auctioning everything from donkeys
to seized luxury homes on the Internet. Early returns
indicate the strategy is working. The government agency
that handles surplus vehicles and office furnishings has
racked up $8 million in sales and nearly 60,000 registered
viewers. So how much would a donkey be? Between $130 and
$1,550 (but they have to be picked up in Wyoming or
Colorado).
