LEAD STORY
"Apache migration wizard not so magical, users say"
Some users say the migration wizard IBM created to coax
users from the iSeries' old HTTP server to the new Apache-
based version isn't all that appealing.

[1] "V5R1: OpsNav's appeal"
Operations Navigator is the GUI included in OS/400 for managing
iSeries servers. Many say it's a fantastic way to centrally manage
their systems. But some prefer the "green screen" and fear that with
V5R1 it may be on its way out.

[2] "Size not a factor for award-winning site"
Some analysts and customers say IBM is interested only in
selling high-profit, high-end boxes to large companies. As
the iSeries encroaches more and more on mainframe territory
at the high end, this argument is somewhat bolstered. But
an award presented to the Web site of a small retailer by
IBM's PartnerWorld for Developers seems to contradict the
theory.

[3] "Spate of Unix launches soon"
Three major server vendors are all expected to ship new
Unix systems in the next few weeks. HP is expected to
announce a new midrange Unix system, Sun is due to launch
the long-awaited UltraSparc III-processor version of its
64-way E10000 product, and IBM will launch its Power4
processor and an updated range of pSeries eServer systems.

THE MISSING LINK
A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web
-----------------------------------------------

"IM fills in when phones fail"
Instant messaging stepped up to the plate during the
terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, proving to be
so much more than just a cool convenience. With phones,
both land lines and wireless, totally clogged, IM traffic
saw a significant spike as people turned to it to keep in
touch with friends and family members. Some 1.2 billion
instant messages reportedly went over AOL -- that's a
record. MSN reported heavy traffic Tuesday and is bracing
for more.
