Basic WebSphere troubleshooting concepts

If you're new to WebSphere, you're bound to come upon some
problems that you need help figuring out. This tip written by
search400 expert Jim Mason introduces WebSphere basic concepts

Answers to Other Technical Questions
===========================================================

1. Diagnosing WebSphere problems
To analyze problems running a WebSphere application, search400
expert Jim Mason says it is best to follow IBM support's first
response: "Have you applied all the PTFs you need for: OS/400,
the HTTP server, WebSphere and Java?" After you've checked and
the answer is yes, here are the basic questions you need to ask.

2. Can a Java program run on the 400 and access Domino?
One user writes, "We have Lotus Domino running on an NT platform.
We have WebSphere running on an iSeries 400 (V5R1). We want to
write a program in Java, running on the iSeries 400 that can
access the Domino database. Do I need an iSeries driver or an NT
driver? In theory I need an iSeries driver, but Lotus doesn't
seem to have any driver for the iSeries platform. Is there any
sample code that you know of that can help?" Web development
expert Jim Mason offers some advice.

3. Running into problems with distributed programs
This member is experiencing a problem with one of his distributed
programs where DB2/400 is returning a resultset to VB. Web
development expert Jim Mason discusses some possible reasons this
may be happening and offers some suggestions.

4. Printing over the Internet
One member writes, "If I decide to Web-enable our existing RPG
applications, is there a printing solution? How would I
accomplish this over the Internet if I have an application that
allows the user to enter data and print a packing slip?"
Search400 expert Tim Granatir offers some advice.
