Your system can never be too secure
Your iSeries may be secure, but what about the other machines it's connected to? PCs?
NT servers? Those are easier to hack into, and once someone gets in, your iSeries can be
compromised.
And even if all external entrances are protected, someone within may still be able to
do damage. User authority can be critical.
With all that in mind, we've created a security newsletter. Each month you'll get
technical tips and expert advice for making your system as secure as possible.
Subscribers to our Administrator Tips will receive the security tip automatically. If you
would like to receive our Security/Administrator tips, all you need to do is update your
profile.
Last week we kicked off the newsletter with a tip that outlines four steps to ensuring
proper security and helps you develop your own security policy. Check out "Even on
iSeries, security takes planning and
work". And
while you're on Search400, don't forget to sign up to receive the newsletter.

Help! I can't delete a user profile
This user has done all that he can think of, including transferring all the objects to another
user and trying DLTUSRPRF USRPRF(profile-to-delete) OWNOBJOPT(*DLT), but he
can't get rid of the profile.
Fortunately, several others had some ideas.

Object authority puzzle
Scenario: A shop has moved from a 50S V4R5 to an 820 V5R1. It now seems
some users who were given authority to system commands on the 50S no longer have the
authority on the 820.
Question: Is there a way to display or print by user the objects they have been given authority to and what the authority is?

| Tip of the Week: |
Use FNDMSG command to maintain and manage error messages
External message files are a great way to keep error messages that are external to your
program visible, and they provide an easy way to maintain those messages. When you
create a new program and need to use an error message, the question becomes, "Do I
already have an error message defined that I can use?" With the FNDMSG command you
can locate existing error messages and eliminate the possibility of recreating messages. |
