Today's Featured Tip
=================================================================

A new way to start TCP/IP with V5R1

Prior to OS/400 V5R1, administrators were locked into a fairly
familiar pattern when starting TCP/IP. With V5R1, IBM has added a new
parameter to its IPL attributes that allows you to start TCP/IP upon
an OS/400 IPL without having to edit the startup program. Check out
this tip for more information on IBM's recent changes concerning
starting TCP/IP. Joe Hertvik gives you all the details in his latest
tip.

Answers to Other Administrator Questions
=============================================================

1. Readers sound off about manual's missing chapter
This resent tip by Joe Hertvik touched a nerve with his readers. He
received some good user feedback; check out what they had to say.

2. How can I suppress the flashing screen?
One user writes, "Is it possible to suppress the flashing of the
screen during a debug session of an RPGIV program? Every time I press
F10 the previous screen appears and disappears before the debugger
stops at the next source/row. I already specified option
(*nodebugio:*srcstmt)." Read what other members suggested.

3. Tricks and techniques for FTPing OS/400 save files
Save files (SAVF) are great for transferring iSeries and AS/400
objects between OS/400-based machines. Unfortunately, there's a
little bit of misunderstanding about how to properly FTP save files.
There are a few simple, but hard-fast, rules that users must follow
to successfully transfer save files. Joe Hertvik gives you all the
details in this tip.

4. Performance collection in V5R1
This member wonders if there have been any changes to the underlying
files that are produced by performance collection in V5R1? OS/400
expert John Brandt offers some advice.

5. V5R1: Printing & output
Printing and output from the iSeries can be a challenge. And V5R1
provides more changes in output capabilities than any previous
release. Get advice on your printing issues in this Search400
Featured Topic.
