When you run this configuration -- DSPPTF LICPGM(*ALL) OUTPUT(*) -- DSPPTF presents a screen display of all the PTFs that have been applied against all of your iSeries 400 licensed programs. DSPPTF can also be used to display PTF information for one individual product. However, with so many different OS/400 products and features installed on a typical iSeries system it can be a real headache paging through every product using LICPGM(*ALL). If you'd like something a little faster that you can use to search for specific PTFs number, PTF status indicators or certain information strings, check out this tip. Joe Hertvik shows you two variations on DSPPTF that could make PTF hunting a little easier. >> Click here to review the full tip... http://search400.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci816033,00.html =================================================================== Answers to Other Administrator Questions =================================================================== 1. The non-thinking person's guide to identifying corrective PTFs Ever wonder how IBM tells you which PTFs to apply to fix your problem? It's not magic. User Matt Griffith tells you exactly what you need to do. Check out this tip for all of the details. http://search400.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci526597,00.html 2. Apply PTFs unattended Ever want to apply some PTFs and not want to wait around to start the PWRDWNSYS command? User Patrick Andrade tells you a way to accomplish that with the job scheduler. http://search400.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci781132,00.html 3. Determine OS/400 install date One user writes, "We are trying to determine when a client upgraded their machine from V4R4 to V4R5. The install log doesn't go back past the last month or so. DSPOBJD QSYS/SF99105 *DTAARA shows a generic creation that is the same on multiple machines. Any suggestions on how I can figure out the install date of an OS version?" One suggestion was made. Do you have any others? http://search400.discussions.techtarget.com/WebX?[EMAIL PROTECTED]^[email protected]/397 4. V5R1's new way of locking down FTP OS/400 FTP has always been both a blessing and a curse on the iSeries. It's a blessing because it enables you to easily move files between OS/400 and other operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows, Unix and Linux. It's a curse because -- in the wrong hands -- FTP can also allow users to delete file members or libraries and to launch commands on your iSeries or AS/400 box. With OS/400 V5R1 and Client Access Express for Windows V5R1, IBM has provided new Operations Navigator-based FTP application settings that help fill those holes. http://search400.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci764642,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------- Special Training Offer: 30% off - Network Security and Firewalls ----------------------------------------------------------------- Security is a major concern for iSeries 400 pros everywhere.
