Are you ready for V5R2?
There have been a lot of rumors and speculation surrounding the next release of OS/400, V5R2, which is being introduced today. We know there are bugs that still haven't been worked out in V5R1, yet we're already jumping onto the next version -- at least us media types are.
We clamor for information, hints, a glimmer of a detail surrounding the new version. But do you? At what point do you start actually thinking of upgrading to a new version? Are you an early adopter or do you wait until the dust settles? Are you as anxious to learn about what the new version will have to offer, or are we just feeding you one speculation story too many? Send your comments to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and then take our poll and tell us what you'll do when V5R2 is released.

Disaster recovery backups -- is there a better way?
One user writes, "We take disaster recovery backups using the SAVLIB command. However, this process is very time-consuming, and the availability outage of the data is not acceptable. The entire backup takes about seven hours to complete, time which batch jobs are being run. Is there any better way to accomplish faster backups?"

Active Server Pages on NT calling an RPG program
This person is using active server pages to call an RPG program on the AS/400. He's passing two parameters to the RPG program, and the program runs on the 400. His question: How can he retrieve the value in the second parm that he's passed to the RPG program? Have any ideas?

Command special values: One set for the user, one set for the program
Did you know you can have the user select one set of values on user defined command, yet have your program receive a totally different set of values? This is helpful when you need to interrupt what the user selected into "Program Logic". Here is an example that asks the user what type of report they want.
