Gather all essential OS/400 information first Call it a personal quirk, but I get annoyed at how much information I have to provide for software upgrades and purchases. When ordering, installing, or upgrading IBM software, customers like me frequently have to reference their current PTF level, server model and feature code, how much main memory your iSeries has, how much free DASD is on your system, and all the software options installed on your system. And this is usually before we get around to actually installing the software. If you're not organized enough to keep all this information in one place, there's a few easy ways to find it whenever it's needed. Joe Hertvik provides a cheat sheet for locating some of the more common pieces of OS/400 information you may be asked for when you order, configure, or upgrade a piece of software. >> Click here to review the full tip... http://search400.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci823593,00.html ============================================================= Answers to Other Administrator Questions ============================================================= 1. Ethernet receipt printers One user writes, "I am looking for anyone who has had success with Ethernet attached receipt or thermal laser printers working directly off the iSeries 400. All the ones we have had experience with are attached via network stations and would like to find ones that take the network stations out of the mix." Site expert Tim Granatir offers some advice. http://search400.discussions.techtarget.com/WebX?[EMAIL PROTECTED]^[email protected]/1730 2. Feed multiple output queues to a single active writer Search400 user Gary Ostrander provides a simple method to use remote outqs. According to Gary, you can set up one outq as the active queue, which will feed the writer directly and set up the other outqs as remote outqs. http://search400.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci822927,00.html 3. Retaining security after a transfer This user has trouble retaining security on a program after he transfers it to another iSeries 400 in his shop. He has a program on development that is owned by Qpgmr and only one user group has *Use authority to it. He turns to Search400 security expert Carol Woodbury for advice. Check out this expert Q&A to see what Carol suggests. http://search400.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid3_cid467981_tax288767,00.html 4.
