ISERIES OPENS THE DOOR FOR VENDORS | News: iSeries Network
While it has its share of critics, IBM is following through on
its commitment to push the iSeries as an open platform. Although
some vendors say the "open" label is a misnomer given the closed
nature of the hardware, others say IBM is supporting
interoperability through support for multiple languages and
operating systems. (Free registration to this site required.)

GLOBAL SERVER MARKET SHRINKS 15% | News: Reuters
The worldwide market for powerful servers dropped by 15%,
according to a recent Gartner study. However, IBM showed the
strongest share gain. Sales of servers running Linux jumped 54.7%
from a year earlier to just under $400 million, with IBM leading
the pack.

HOW MUCH AUTHORITY SHOULD PROGRAMMERS HAVE? | Advice: Search400

Dear Ask the Expert,
What has been your opinion and experience in giving programmers
access to production libraries to fix critical production
problems? Is this acceptable, and would this pass an IT audit?
Should programmers be able to invoke this application themselves
to grant themselves additional authority? Search400 security
expert Carol Woodbury offers her opinion.

OVRPRTF IN RPG400 PROGRAM ERROR | Advice: Search400

This user wants to use the OVRPRTF command inside an RPG400
program. He has a DS defined with the command parameters and then
he calls QCMDEXC. If he has the FORMTYPE keyword in there, the
call to QCMDEXC ends in error. If he removes the FORMTYPE
keyword, the QCMDEXC call is successful. He turned to the
Search400 Programmer Discussion Forum for some help. Read what
other users suggested.

THE MISSING LINK | Traffic to M&M Web site skyrockets 145%

The Web proved that voter apathy does not exist in the Republic
of Candyland. The recent "election" of the newest M&M color
brought more than 330,000 sweet-toothed surfers to the M&M Mars
Web site -- that's a heckuva lot more than the week before
(137,000 visitors). So what color won? Purple reigns.
